In a startling turn of events, former President Donald Trump was hurried off the stage during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, after loud noises, resembling gunshots, were heard. According to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the incident, Trump is currently safe and is expected to survive. He was observed with blood on the side of his head and his ear.
The incident occurred as Trump was delivering his speech. He reached for the side of his face when the popping sounds echoed through the rally. Secret Service agents immediately rushed to the stage, surrounded him, and escorted him to a waiting vehicle. Trump walked off the stage with agents on all sides, amid screams from the audience.
A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed in a statement posted to X that "the former President is safe."
"This is now an active Secret Service investigation, and further information will be released when available," said agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.
Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung, expressed gratitude towards law enforcement and first responders for their swift action. "He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility," Cheung said. "More details will follow."
At this time, it is unclear if a suspect is in custody.
