Bald Knob, AR — With December bringing heavier traffic, holiday events, and families on the move, the Bald Knob Police Department is issuing a renewed reminder to drivers: stay alert and keep your hands — and attention — off your phone.
The Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office continues its statewide push for safer roads through the “Put the Phone Away or Pay” initiative, and BKPD is proud to support the effort as one of the busiest travel months of the year begins.
Distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of crashes nationwide. In 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported more than 3,275 deaths linked to distractions behind the wheel. Young drivers continue to be disproportionately impacted.
“December is supposed to be a joyful season, but it can change in an instant when someone looks down at their phone,” said Assistant Chief J.R. Tackett. “We want our community to enjoy the holidays safely. Expect to see officers watching closely for distracted driving — especially texting behind the wheel. Violations will result in citations.”
BKPD encourages drivers to take simple steps to stay safe:
Park in a safe location if you need to use your phone.
Allow passengers to handle directions or messages.
Silence alerts before leaving your driveway.
Place your phone out of reach to remove the temptation entirely.
Arkansas law is clear: texting and driving is illegal, and penalties can be significant. This December, let’s keep our roads safe so everyone can enjoy the season with their loved ones.
